Medical Dosimetry Professionals:

The American Association of Medical Dosimetrists (AAMD) is excited to host our 38th Annual Meeting in San Antonio, Texas. On behalf of the 2013 Administrative Conference Committee (ACC) and the AAMD Board of Directors, we invite you to attend this dynamic conference. Not only will you be able to earn more than 35 continuing education credits, but you will also have the opportunity to network with over 400 fellow dosimetrists and see the latest radiation oncology products in our exhibit hall.

Based on this year’s theme, “A River of Knowledge - Connecting Theory to Practice,” presentations will range from the latest technology and advances in imaging to tips and tricks for a community-based dosimetrist. We will also offer an entire day (Wednesday, June 19) of ‘breakout’ sessions that allow you to choose which presentations to attend!

In addition, we invite you to participate in our pre-conference workshop program, which includes a CMD Exam Review, an Image Registration Workshop and an e-Portfolio Workshop. The CMD Exam Review is a two-day course beginning Friday, June 14. Those who are unable to join us in San Antonio can participate in the review as a “virtual” student. On Saturday, June 15, the Image Registration Workshop, a brand new concept that was requested by our attendees, will include a review of different types of image registration algorithms and registration methods in addition to both manual and atlas-based contouring. Participants will be given the opportunity to apply the registration techniques during this hands-on session. The e-Portfolio Workshop is designed to help attendees create their very own e-portfolios for job searching and career advancement.

We will kick off the educational sessions on Sunday, June 16 with Elyn Jacobs, a certified cancer coach and breast cancer survivor, with her keynote address titled “Navigating a Path to Wellness - Insights from a Cancer Coach.” Later that evening, we will have a welcome reception in the exhibit hall for time to ‘connect’ with our corporate sponsors, network with colleagues and win prizes. The exhibit hall will remain open through Tuesday afternoon with extended breaks on Monday and Tuesday to allow ample time to check everything out!

New additions to this year’s program are the Treatment Planning System (TPS) Workshops, which provide a great opportunity to learn a different planning system! During the week, there will be a daily breakout session (10 am - 5 pm) allowing you to train on one of the four treatment planning systems: Varian - Eclipse, Elekta - Monaco, Philips - Pinnacle and RaySearch - RayStation. These are FREE workshops (with full meeting registration), but you may only attend one. Space is limited, so you will want to register early to guarantee your spot for the TPS of your choice. See the Workshops page for more details.

In addition to a full agenda, we are happy to announce that AAMD's Corporate Partners will once again be offering BONUS credits through sponsored lunch symposia (Sunday through Wednesday). These lunches are hosted by our corporate partners and are not part of the official meeting curriculum. Attendees may earn 1 CE credit per session. 125 lunches will be provided as part of the sponsorship, but space will be available for additional people to attend! These are great opportunities to earn extra credits while in San Antonio. Come lunch, learn and earn!

We would like to thank our corporate partner .decimal® for providing yet another fun night out this year! They are hosting a western themed “Howling Hoedown with the Howl and the Moon Gang” (dueling piano players) at historic Sunset Station - a short walking distance from the meeting hotel. This is a free event but will require an RSVP during registration. Guests are welcome to join in on the fun too.

We invite you to discover San Antonio with us at our meeting hotel, the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. This luxury hotel offers a blend of modernism and Latin culture and is located right on the River Walk. Other local attractions include the Alamo, historic missions, HemisFair Park, SeaWorld and many other family oriented options.

The AAMD Board of Directors, staff and all of us on the Administrative Conference Committee look forward to seeing you in San Antonio, where we know you will find “A River of Knowledge” and where we will be “Connecting Theory to Practice!”

We hope to see you there,

Crystal Bull and Lori Kasuske
